[レポート] DVC203 – AWS 認定資格トレーニングによってクラウド導入を加速する #reinvent

こんにちは。池田です。本記事は現地時間2018/11/26-30で行われた re:Invent 2018 のセッション DVC203 - ProTips for Scaling AWS Training to Accelerate Adoption （ AWS 認定資格トレーニングによってクラウド導入を加速する ： 意訳 ）のレポートです。

はじめに

最初はこのセッションタイトルの適切な日本語表現が思いつかなかったのですが、企業における AWS に関する技術（ 主に AWS 認定試験 ）の教育プログラム導入によるクラウドへの変革を促進する方法に関する内容でしたので、ご紹介したいと思います。

多くの米国企業 CIO がクラウド戦略を優先している中、企業内の状況は以下のような状況ということです。

つまり、企業としての戦略を進めていくにはまだまだ AWS の専門知識を持ったエンジニアが足りていないと感じられているようです。

クラウドは文化であり、AWS は共通言語であるとして、Werner Vogels CTO of Amazon　の言葉が紹介されています。

You have to be a digital native company if you want to attract digital natives.

AWS 認定の価値について、以下のメリットが挙げられています。

• Provides a high bar
• Is a strong indicator of cloud fluency
• Demonstrates core knowledge
• Indicates demonstrable level of skills
• Establishes a common foundation
• Is highly regarded in the industry

What is an AWS Expert? として上記グラフによる解説がありますが、「私はエキスパートです」と言ってるうちはまだ本当のエキスパートではないよ。本当のエキスパートは「知るべきことがまだ沢山ある」ということを理解している人のことだよ。ということを示していますね。自分がどこに位置するのか謙虚に向き合っておきたいと思います。

真のエキスパートを育成し、企業がクラウド戦略を推進していくにはどうすれば良いのでしょうか。その問いに対する答えの1つが次に紹介されています。

2011年に科学者たちによって発見された「転換点」の原理はつまり、真のエキスパートが一定数を超えたころから、企業は急速な成長期を迎える。ということかと思います。

この「転換点 = Chasm 」を超えるべく、Capital One は教育に投資し、結果として米国内で最大級の AWS 認定デベロッパーの1つとなっています。

Create a common experience with a common cadence

ここでは同じ歩調で共通の経験を積んでいくために Verizon が作成したブートキャンプの紹介がされています。

Verizon set a goal to have 10% of our engineers certified to position the organization for the transformation.
I am proud to say that as of today, over 2,000 AWS certifications are held by 1600+ of our engineers.

Create a growth mindset 「結果ベースでの学習は AWS の学習を進める上で不可欠である」として、いくつかの事例が紹介されています。

AWS IoT ボタンを押すことで愛する娘にメッセージ（ A love note ）を送信する仕組み。日本人的には少々気恥ずかしいですが、素敵なアイデアだと感じました。他に AWS IoT ボタンによって SOS メッセージを送信する例や Alexa スキルの例もありました。

So much creative, and highly relevant innovate use is happening if there are simple building blocks with no gatekeepers to tell what you can and cannot do. Very cool solution.

こういった学習経験を通じて技術や知識を深め、本当のエキスパートに近づいていくということかと感じました。

誰かのメンターになること、責任を持つことの他にグループごとに AWS 認定資格取得者の割合をグラフ化するなどの、モチベーションに対する取り組みも紹介されています。

確かに、機会学習などをシステムにさせている間は待ち時間が発生しますし、こんなイベントがあったら参加しないわけにいかないですね（完全に見落としてました。残念...）。

おわりに

試験勉強といえば一人で部屋にこもってやるものというイメージがありますが、組織やチームで取り組む、楽しみながら取り組むといった視点は技術要素を学んでいく上でとても良いアプローチだと改めて感じました。その結果、企業もクラウドの導入戦略が加速できればそこで働くエンジニアも、その企業の顧客もより幸せになれますし。振り返れば、技術コミュニティでの勉強会は確かに楽しみながら知らなかったことを学んだり、理解を深めたりすることが出来る場面が多かったです。クラスメソッドでも AWS 認定試験の取得は、お客様に安心して仕事をお任せいただいたり、より適切、ハイレベルな業務を遂行する上で必要不可欠な要素となっていますが、このセッションで取り上げられた仕組みや環境と同一ではないにしても、先輩や同僚が教えてくれますし時には社内セミナーも開催され、多くのエンジニアが切磋琢磨しています。また、そうして得た知識や技術はどんどんブログでアウトプットしています。
